Standard Treatment  Radical nephrectomy or, in selected cases, a simple nephrectomy.

Five-Year Survival  50 to 65 percent 

Investigational  Postoperative interferon and IL-2 are being evaluated.

Stage III 
TNM T3b, N1-3, M0 
The tumor invades the renal vein (T3b, N0, M0), the inferior vena cave (T3b) or regional lymph nodes (T3b, N1-3, M0).
    Approximately 25 to 35 percent of cases are found in Stage III, 60 percent of whom will have micrometastases found at the time of surgery.

Standard Treatment  Radical nephrectomy. 

Five-Year Survival  30 to 45 percent 

Investigational  Same as for Stage II.
